The Elements Gallery
We thought it might be fun to add an outdoor gallery, so over the next year we'll be adding all sorts of classics to the space around the parking area. First on the list are:
- The Mona Lisa, by Leonardo Da Vinci, c.1504
- Tableau, by Dutchman Piet Mondrian, c.1910
- The Scream, by Edvard Munch, c.1893
- The Starry Night, by Vincent van Gogh, 1889
The Mona Lisa - Leonardo Da Vinci
This was the first of the classics for the outdoor display, but I very much doubt that it will be the first to go on display. I read somewhere that it took Leonardo at least three years off and on to complete it, and was somewhat of a hobby project that he would take with him on his travels in the helicopter or submarine. I guess he'd do it to while away the hours in the absence of any decent games being invented yet for his mobile phone. At the time of writing this, it looks like it's going to take me a similar amount of time to complete as well. I've already slipped in The Scream, by Edvard Munch, and I think that a van Gogh might get squeezed in as well.
Piet Mondrian
While I was beavering away on the Mona Lisa, Mandy was busy on her Mondrian. With it's simplicity and bright primary colours it's a striking addition to the collection.
The Scream - Edvard Munch
The Mona continues to taunt me, but by way of a distraction I knocked up a quick copy of Edvard Munch's classic, The Scream. I didn't get too fussy on it, as it didn't look like Munch had (in any of the umpteen versions that he did). Notwithstanding, the original that went off was done in pastel, so I may revisit it at some point and add in some more scratchiness.
The Starry Night - Van Gogh
Latest on the list is The Starry Sky by Van Gogh.
